How do we do business?

The Shell chemicals company procurement teams operating around the world all follow a common set of guidelines that define how they do business.

Some of the contributory factors shaping our approach include:

Value: we seek the best total value in making our sourcing decisions - purchasing decisions are not based on price alone. We value long-term relationships for most purchases, but will periodically test the market to make sure we continue to get the best value available.

Health, safety, environment (HSE): we expect all of our contractors to meet our HSE requirements in full.

Quality: we expect your material or service to be fit for purpose. We do our best to define our requirements explicitly and expect our suppliers to meet those requirements every time. ISO certification may be required for some purchases.

Innovation: we expect our suppliers to be innovative and to continually improve. We look to suppliers to proactively offer suggestions for improvement, rather than waiting to be asked to do so. And as we adopt new  technologies, such as on-line bidding, we also expect our suppliers to move to these new ways of doing business.

Ethics: we expect all suppliers to adhere to the Shell General Business Principles in their dealings with us. Follow the link in the 'related links' panel for more information.
