Nonene

Shell companies have been involved in the nonene market for more than ten years, focusing on sales in North America and the Asia Pacific region. The product is manufactured at the Puget Sound facility in Washington State in the US, from where it is shipped to customers by rail car or sea-going vessel.

Nonene plays an unseen, but significant role in many people's everyday lives. It is used to plasticise PVC, a widely-used material in our homes, offices and cars. It is also used to produce a range of intermediates that are used in products such as detergents and lubricating oils.

Did you know?
The US military first discovered PVC's qualities in electrical applications during World War II. PVC's chemical make-up makes it inherently flame resistant; adding plasticisers gives it the necessary flexibility in wiring applications.
