Construction was completed at the $4.3 billion chemicals complex at Daya Bay in south east China at the end of 2005 and the plant is fully operational. The complex is the culmination of the largest Sino-foreign joint venture in history and will help meet burgeoning demand for plastics and petrochemicals in China.
Shell Nanhai BV has a 50% stake in the joint venture company - the CNOOC and Shell Petrochemicals Company (CSPC) - with the Chinese company CNOOC Petrochemicals Investment Limited (CPIL) holding the other 50%.
