Our commitment
“Shell chemicals companies are committed to pursuing the goal of no harm to people.”
Fatalities performance update
Regrettably we recorded one contractor fatality in 2005, when a contractor driver was killed as the result of an accident during loading operations in the Netherlands.

Target: To have no fatalities associated with the activities of Shell chemicals companies
Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF)* performance update
The LTIF for 2005 remained the same as 2004 with total LTIF of 0.8. However, the number of lost time incidents for both employees and contractors in 2005 was 24 compared with 28 incidents in 2004.
*LTIF expresses the number of lost time incidents (those which are serious enough to result in at least one day off) per million hours worked.
Total Recordable Case Frequency (TRCF)* performance update
While the overall 2005 TRCF performance of 3.0 was an improvement on the 2004 actual TRCF of 3.3, the 2005 TRCF target of 2.9 was missed. The actual number of total reportable cases among employees and contractors in 2005 was 85 compared with 112 cases in 2004.
* TRCF expresses the number of total reportable cases (lost time incidents plus the number of less serious incidents which required medical treatment or a change of work duties, but did not require time off work) per million hours worked.

Target: To achieve a TRCF of 2.9 or lower in 2005
How are we improving our safety performance?
Changing attitudes and influencing the behaviours that can contribute to incidents will be key factors in improving performance. The “Hearts and Minds” programme, which is designed to support behavioural changes, is rolling out across Shell Chemicals in 2006. Other actions are being taken to further promote an improved HSSE culture among both staff and contractors.
