The Chemicals class of business is focused on six product business units, each of which encompasses activities relating to one or more different chemical products. The six product business units are:
- Base chemicals (lower olefins, aromatics)
- Styrene monomer/propylene oxide and derivatives
- Ethylene oxide/ethylene glycols
- Solvents/phenol
- Higher olefins and derivatives
- Propanediol/polytrimethylene terephthalate
There are also three core process organisations:
- Customer fulfilment
- Operational excellence (forming part of Downstream Manufacturing)
- Procurement
In addition, there are a number of enabling organisations, namely:
- Human resources
- Finance and business systems
- Technology (functionally aligned with Shell Global Solutions), portfolio and sustainable development
The Chemicals class of business also includes several international joint ventures that form stand-alone business units.
At the head of this structure is the Executive Vice President Chemicals (EVP), providing strategic direction, support and appraisal. The EVP is supported by the Chemicals Leadership Team (CLT), comprising the business leaders for the product business units, core process and enabling organisations, as well as the General Counsel.
