Our strategy

The Shell chemicals companies have been following a consistent strategy since the late 1990s, a strategy that is driven by the operating model.
Pulau Bukom

The strategy is aligned with the business vision of the Shell chemicals companies, which is to be a top performer in the petrochemicals sector and to achieve a first quartile position in everything we do.

The underlying strategy of Shell Chemicals - as expressed in the operating model - is to deliver bulk petrochemicals to large industrial customers, through simpler organisational structures and at the lowest total delivered cost.

That strategy was carefully re-evaluated in 2002 and re-confirmed as the right way forward. The basic elements of the strategy in place today therefore remain consistent with those in previous years and include commitments to:

  • focus on health, safety and environment as a primary concern
  • build and focus on a portfolio of products, customers and assets that leverage core competencies and offer attractive returns and growth prospects
  • deliver superior value propositions to customers
  • deploy the talent of a diverse workforce, through simple, efficient and effective structures, and with personal accountability at all levels
  • build sustainable development into all aspects of business operations

Consistent delivery of the strategy is driven by the setting of a number of key business activities each year. These key business activities define the principal tasks and targets that span all Shell Chemicals activities and all Shell chemicals companies employees are encouraged to align their personal goals with these global plans.
