Processing precautions
PDO is considered to be of low toxicity and is suitable for most processing applications. As with any chemical conversion, customers should ensure that they are aware of any by-products produced in the process. In the case of 1,3-propanediol, it has been observed that acid catalysed esterification with aromatic diacids at high temperatures leads to the incidental production of allyl alcohol and acrolein.
